Glass frit

Dimensions: 4” x “ / 5” x 5”

Musing on Olivia Laing’s writing “in search for a common paradise”. The two pieces embody something relational, in the dyad of the mother-baby relationship, but also the relationships established in a peer group. I was struck by the process of Pate De Verre, a French term which translates as ‘glass paste’, which was used in ancient history in Egypt and Rome. The process requires the creation, and ultimate destruction of plaster moulds, and requires the glass to be fired in temperatures 700+ degrees Celsius.
